Abstract: This chapter presents an overview of the state of localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ireland, beginning with an examination of the challenges that could be addressed within the SDG framework. It identifies housing affordability as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation as two critical issues that Ireland could tackle through the lens of the SDGs. Another section focuses on the alignment between national and local government plans, aiming to ensure policy coherence for sustainable development. The chapter concludes with a series of recommendations to strengthen local governments' capacity to foster sustainable development.
